How it started
On the 19th of October 1968 The Waves first opened its doors. Solely utilised for social gatherings, the original club was formed around the passion of bocce and soccer by early immigrant Italian farmers of Bundaberg and was so named 'Across The Waves', for that was how they travelled to Australia aboard the Angelina Lauro - across the waves of the Indian Ocean.
Over 20 years ago Christensen Industries were thrilled to lead in the first major refurbishment of then Across The Waves working alongside company Brand and Slater Architects (now known as BSPN). We have since worked together with BSPN on every refurb and extension for The Waves Sports club.
How it's going
From humble beginnings, The Waves now stands as an icon of Bundaberg. In 2019, The Waves won the award of 'Best Club Wide Bay' for the 9th Consecutive Year, along with 6 other awards that year.
After 20 weeks, in between a few covid interruptions throughout the year of 2020, the new Opulence gaming room was complete. With Aaron Dean leading the team, alongside Broden Williams and behind the desk Peter Otto, this master piece of a gaming room came together. The Opulence Gaming Room boasts the most modern and most abundant pokies, some of which are completely exclusive to The Waves.
